Big Brother 27: One of the Cast Has Single Handedly Decided He’s In A Showmance

Big Brother has showmances year after year, which is an impressive feat, as they have more successful marriages than The Bachelor. However,  with showmances come the one guy each season who decides single-handedly that he’s in a relationship before consulting the other half of the showmance. This season, that houseguest is moving quickly, picking another Big Brother 27 houseguest to woo in the first days of the season.

To be clear: this isn’t an issue of consent as much as it is a misunderstanding in the Big Brother house. Typically, both houseguests have some sort of interest in each other, but the man involved believes the relationship is more developed than it is and discusses it with others. In the BB game of telephone, information becomes misconstrued quickly.

The Big Brother showmance has evolved over the years. In the early days of the series, Big Brother veterans like Mike “Boogie” Malin and Dr. Will Kirby were flirting with women in the house to pass the time and wound up breaking up with them weeks (or months) after the season’s end. As Big Brother gained more traction, relationships bloomed.

Big Brother 11’s Jeff Schroeder & Jordan Lloyd met and fell in love during their season, just like Big Brother 12’s Brendon Villegas & Rachel Reilly. Couples have left the show together happily, but a pattern emerging in recent seasons has been that, after a mild and minimal amount of flirtation, one male houseguest decides he’s in a showmance, but the other half doesn’t know that.

From Matt Klotz of Big Brother 25 becoming somewhat obsessed with Reilly Smedley throughout his time in the house without her interest, to Big Brother 26’s Matt Hardeman acting like the week he spent in the house with runner-up Makensy Jo Manbeck meant they were dating, the men of BB have started a concerning trend, and this season’s no different.

Big Brother 27’s Zach Cornell Is Interested In Lauren Domingue

While Zach Cornell didn’t appear to come into Big Brother with hopes of getting into a showmance, he was quickly enamoured with fellow houseguest Lauren Domingue. Lauren, who shared she wouldn’t be opposed to getting into a showmance, was somewhat interested in Zach, but didn’t seem to have the same drive to get into a full-blown relationship on screen.

As the pair have navigated the Big Brother house in its first week, Lauren and Zach have gotten closer, but it’s been Zach steering the ship. After talking with nearly everyone in the house about what he wants and how hopeful he is for a showmance with Lauren, it’s gotten back to her in different ways. Unfortunately, Zach hadn’t cleared the showmance with Lauren first.

After hearing about her apparent showmance from more than one person, Lauren expressed discomfort to other houseguests about people bringing up her personal life consistently. Rather than keeping a level head and talking about things with Lauren first, Zach made an executive decision about their future and ultimately found himself between a rock and a hard place. His words have damaged both his and Lauren’s games.
