Big Brother 27’s Julie Chen Reacts to Explosive Big Brother Drama: Ashley vs. Keanu, a “Hugmance,” and the Mastermind’s Return

Big Brother host Julie Chen Moonves shared her thoughts on the latest explosive week inside the house, weighing in on Ashley’s fiery speech, the growing closeness between Morgan and Vince, Mickey’s surprising Eviction, and the ominous return of the Mastermind.

The drama ignited at the Veto ceremony when Keanu used the power to name Ashley as the replacement nominee. In response, Ashley delivered a passionate speech before she and Rachel confronted Keanu afterwards. Chen Moonves described the scene as more strategic than emotional in her latest interview with EW.

“I thought it was very uncalled for, mean, and immature,” she said. “With Ashley and Rachel ganging up on him, it felt like ‘mean girls.’ They accused him (Keanu) of yelling at them when he wasn’t — it was THEM yelling at him. It seemed more like a strategy to make him feel alone and weak rather than a genuine emotional reaction. But it didn’t seem to make a dent in Keanu’s confidence.”

Outside of the house’s power struggles, one budding relationship has been drawing attention: the long embraces and lingering touches between Morgan and Vince, who has a girlfriend outside the game. Chen Moonves called it a new kind of showmance.

“I think we have to coin a new term now… hugmance,” she joked. “If I were Vince’s girlfriend, I wouldn’t be happy with him. But doesn’t it seem fitting that Vince would allow these long hugs? He goes with the flow in the house, and he goes along to get along. I feel it’s really on Morgan, who is initiating the hugs and lingering and doing the caressing. I think she is drawn to him on an emotional level and cannot imagine living in the house without him.”

The week also saw the eviction of Mickey, who looked visibly shocked when the votes came back 6-1 against her. Once considered a strong competitor, she struggled after her HOH reign, according to Chen Moonves.

“She started out strong. She had friends, was in alliances, won power and used it,” Chen Moonves explained. “But I think things took a wrong turn once she became HOH. The power made it hard for her to see things clearly. The fact that she nominated Jimmy and orchestrated his eviction was a bad move. He would have never put her up. She lost an ally, a number for her group, and didn’t have the sense to realise it at any point. She got a bit too confident with her standing in the house and couldn’t read the others or how they felt about her. She couldn’t see that she was coming across too strong and dictatorial to her housemates. But in her exit interview, she was gracious and lovely. She was a good sport and classy.”

And while the houseguests navigate alliances, betrayals, and personal drama, the return of the Mastermind looms large. Chen Moonves warned that his latest schemes could change the game in unprecedented ways.

“I am more worried about the houseguests!” she teased. “His diabolical plans are taking BB to a new level, and something will happen that we’ve never seen before. Let’s just say White Locust is more like the roach motel — guests check in… but not all check out.”

With heated confrontations, blurred lines between friendship and romance, and the Mastermind’s shadowy influence, this season of Big Brother continues to deliver shocking turns week after week.
